I work largely in watercolour on untreated cotton duck canvas and this unusual combination of materials provides a freedom of expression that speaks directly to my desire to capture the basic elements of nature that are my inspiration.
When I see the dazzling purity of a swathe of ox-eye daisies, the exquisitely formed petals of a rose, or the over-blown exuberance of a peony I want to hold that vision to myself; to keep it close, to revisit and enjoy again the vivacious, joyful colours and forms. What better way than to capture the essence of these treasures in paint?
Both abstract and representational work excites me and my aim is to produce work that evokes an emotional response and leaves my audience uplifted by the experience.
